Elissa May Murphy is a flutist, multi-instrumentalist, conductor, and music educator in Upstate New York.
An active performer and member of the Syracuse Local 78 AFM, Elissa has appeared with Off the Dock Chamber Festival, the Syracuse Orchestra, Brighton Symphony, Greece Symphony, OSSIA New Music Ensemble, and B Sharp Music Club.
Multi-instrumental theatre credits include productions at JCC CenterStage (Come From Away, Ragtime, Indecent) and Blackfriars Theatre (Spamalot, Jerry’s Girls, Guys and Dolls, Avenue Q, Rocky Horror Picture Show); performing across flutes, clarinets, and saxophones.
An emerging conductor, Elissa has worked with distinguished directors and educators including Dr. Mallory Thompson, Dr. Daniel Cook, Marin Alsop, Karen Ní Bhroín, Colonel Jason Fettig, Dr. Thomas Gamboa, Dr. Mark Davis Scatterday, Dr. Andrea Brown, and Michael Haithcock.
Elissa holds her Master’s in Music Education from the Eastman School of Music and dual bachelor’s degrees in Flute Performance and Arts Leadership with a minor in film studies from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.
She currently serves as director of elementary bands for the Whitesboro Central School District and regularly presents research on music education at regional and national conferences, including the Eastman Context Conference and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Conference.
